Meet Aimee

Hi, I'm Aimee.

I'm a mom of two and a special education teacher with over 20 years of experience helping children with disabilities grow in confidence, independence, and everyday life skills.

I created I Can Life Skills because I believe every child deserves opportunities to discover what they're capable of. Some of the most meaningful learning doesn't happen at a desk. it happens while making a snack, shopping for groceries, learning a new routine, or simply believing, "I can."

My goal is to help children build confidence through real-life experiences while giving families encouragement, support, and hope along the way.

Why I Became a Special Education Teacher

Ever since I was a little girl, I was drawn to children with special needs. Becoming a special education teacher never felt like just a career. It always felt like where I was meant to be.

More than 20 years later, that feeling hasn't changed. Every child deserves patience, encouragement, opportunities to grow, and someone who truly believes in them. That belief continues to guide me every day, both in the classroom and through I CAN Life Skills.

What My Students Have Taught Me

After more than 20 years in the classroom, I've learned that some of my greatest lessons have come from my students.

They've taught me that progress doesn't always happen in big leaps. Sometimes it's found in the smallest moments, trying something new, gaining a little more confidence, or accomplishing something that once felt impossible.

Those lessons continue to shape the way I teach, coach, and connect with every child and family I serve.

What Families Can Expect from I CAN Life Skills

After each session, my hope is that your child leaves feeling proud of what they accomplished and excited to keep trying. I also hope you begin to notice something new: a little more confidence, a little more independence, and a little less weight on your shoulders as you watch your child discover what they're capable of.

Although sessions are relaxed and enjoyable, each one has a clear purpose. Every activity is thoughtfully planned to help your child build everyday life skills through individualized coaching in a supportive, encouraging environment. I CAN Life Skills is not childcare, tutoring, or therapy.
You'll also receive ongoing parent feedback and communication along the way, so you'll always know what your child is working on, celebrate their progress, and feel confident supporting their growth between sessions.

Progress over Perfection

At I Can Life Skills, I don't expect perfection, I celebrate progress.

Every child learns at their own pace, and every accomplishment, no matter how small it may seem, is worth celebrating.

Whether your child learns to make a snack, organize their room, order their own meal, or simply believes in themselves a little more than they did yesterday, each step forward builds confidence and independence.

Because progress isn't measured by how quickly a child learns. It's measured by their willingness to keep trying and by having someone beside them who believes they can.

One of my proudest moments as a teacher didn't happen because of a test score or an academic achievement. It happened because I looked at one child's unique strengths in a different way.

Instead of expecting her to fit into a traditional role, I adapted the environment to fit her needs. Rather than asking her to change, I changed the way I taught so she could experience success.

That experience reminded me that when we focus on a child's strengths instead of their challenges, confidence has the chance to grow. Sometimes it's not the child who needs to change. Sometimes it's the environment, the approach, or the expectations around them.

That belief became the foundation of I CAN Life Skills. My goal is to help children discover what they're capable of by creating opportunities to succeed, build confidence, and feel proud of themselves.
